As a professional artist and faux painter, I have been in many million dollar homes. I have been hired over and over to faux paint their walls to look like the ones that appear in designer magazines. You know, the "Old World" look. I must have faux painted nearly 30 walls by now with the same color and Old World Parchment faux finish. Yet each time, I have to agree that it's a great choice. Confession - I actually painted my own bedroom with "that look" and I love! My pest exterminator calls it "the suite" of the house.

So with a little paint and faux painting tricks, you can literally transform your home to look like a million bucks, too. Faux painting is the fastest growing form of decorative art there is on the market. There are many types of faux finishes to choose from. Some are difficult to achieve, especially textured ones. However, even applying a simple color wash on the walls can make such a difference. Painting faux bricks can really add dimension and interest to your home, too. When you are trying to do your own home staging, I believe that using paint is a very important part of getting others to value your home. I had two different women tell me that the faux painting I did on their walls was what sold their house. That was quite a compliment, thank God.

Recently I received some pictures from a catholic priest who had some of his congregation help him faux paint bricks in the church. What a difference! They did a great job and none of them had ever faux painted before. I say, give it a try. You never know, you might just be knocking on the door to a new career in decorative painting. That's how it all started for me, you know.
